Did you know, that some people opt to pay for a monthly rental fee for their internet router? Not me…
I just recently signed up for Internet service from Verizon Fios at my new place and when I was evaluating the options, I realized that there is some opportunity to save some $’s on a monthly basis if I just supply my own router and feel confident to be able to configure the router.
Verizon Fios is also running a great promo to reduce my upfront $’s, which is typically a con when going this route. They offered my $50 Visa card when signing up.
There are 2 routes when you don’t want to rent your own router:
#1. Buy a Verizon Fios router for $199 or
#2. Supply your own router that is Fios compatible. (This is the route I went)
I was able to find a high quality router at Best Buy that works, a Linksys AC1750 router for less than $100. This price, combined with the $50 credit, makes my outlay at a break even less that 6 months.
I was able to setup this up in less than 30 minutes, not bad time investment for the money saved, knowing that in 6 months I will be getting that true return on the router investment.
